Give Peace A Chance (Astro's Revolution Mix)
Wanted to revitalize this amazing classic for modern times and sound. Seems it's still just as relevant and sadly little has changed since the days of it's inception. My greatest hope for this song would be for EMI (the label that released the original) to release it and to give all of the revenue generated to a nonprofit who is effectively creating peace. Though I'd also be very happy if any label would like to answer this call. It could be a great marketing stragedy and tax right off, that is if more inspiration than the obvious good kharma is needed.
Not In Our Name (Astro's house mix)
A few years ago the acclaimed spoken word artist, Saul Williams, did his take on the very socially relevant "Pledge of Resistance" which was written for the Not In Our Name Peace organization. Artists like Coldcut and Dj shadow have put it to music and here's my funked up dance spin on it. It started to get interest so I'm just waiting to hear back from NION on the status of the sample. If it's cleared I'll release the track to raise money for the Peace effort. So keep checking back.
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith (Astro's Bliss Breaks Mix) My most popular song to date, it's just some good ol' funky breaks remixin'. And here's some great kudos from Dj Dragonfly on the track:
"Seriously...as someone who pursues new music almost daily, and as a fiend for remixes of the classics of yore...I'd venture to say Astro serves up, perhaps, the best track since Hoxton Whores "Sunshine of your Love" remix. Nice one Astro...you know how to keep a crowd on its toes!"
We Got To Have Peace - Curtis Mayfield (Astro's Garage Dub Mix)
A fun funky experiment with one of the best songs about peace in our time.
Let's Go All the Way - Sly Fox (Astro's Dirty Breaks Mix)
I'm a nut for the 80's and will take advantage of every opportunity to relive them, including remixing my favs' from the era.
Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart (Astro's Dark Synth Mix)
Case in point. Yet another fav' from the 80's.
Originals
Seneca Soul
Inspired by a vision quest.
Control The Information (some problems w/ end of song, will fix soon)
Sample: "There's a war out there old friend; a world war! And it's not about whose got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information" Too True!
Move That Body Big high energy mess of beats and sound just for the funk of it. Actually this track was inspired by some of the progressive electro I was hearing played at the famous Qool nights in San Francisco that seemed to toss in street breaks and hip hop elements.
Hard Water It won't stain your bathtub, but it might cause severe head bobbin' and toe tappin'.
Less Natural
Techy dub house with words by the late, great, psychedelic philosopher Terence McKenna, "And as the language became less and less natural, the world became less and less natural.""
The Teacher (w/ Matthew Fox)
A throwback to those massive inspirational Acid Trance songs of yor that really hooked me into the dance scene. I will be giving proceeds generated from this track to support the work of Rev. Dr. Matthew Fox and his orgainization FCS. The sample below was taken from one of his many speeches:
"Suffering is a teacher. Fear is a teacher. Instead of running from it or going into addictions about it, which is what our culture is trying to sell us, we should simply ask, "why are you hear? What have you come to teach me?" And we should ask the same thing of suffering and then in the process suffering will teach us to be warriors, teach us to be strong. And that translates into service and compassion because we are here, indeed, to relieve one another's suffering."
Collaborations
The Bridge (w/ Audette Sophia www.audettesophia.com)
Maze (w/ Audette Sophia www.audettesophia.com)
Muse Technicians (w/ Audette Sophia www.audettesophia.com)
Inbetween (w/ Jake Saint and guitar by Quinn)
The Cause (w/ Jake Saint, words by Miguel Pinero)
This was my very first completed song. It's grungy and full of white noise just like the city that partially inpsired the author of these words, Miguel Pinero, in NYC. My Poet friend, Jake, simply left this message on my answering machine one day. It inspired me enough to sample it and put it to music, and there you go.
We Are The Future ( w/ youth from The UC Berkeley PCA Program)
The youth in the program were put into creative small group exercises in order to spontaneously create words of inspiration. Then I did some inpromtu recording with my little voice recorder of their lyrics and allowed some time for them to improv... sing, yell, or whatever off from the original themes. Then I created the track later and presented it to them at the closing of the 6 week program. It was a great and wonderful surprise for them and will hopefully be positive memorabilia and encouragement throughout their lives.
Works in Progress
Give More, Take Less
This hard Tech House sound appears to be the current underground flava of the month and I think it's almost as good as B&J's Chunky Monkey.
I've Seen the Days
I want to produce a series of electro dance tracks that could inspire awareness and empathy for our global climate crisis as we dance and allow our bodies to experience this as much as our minds (see my masters thesis for a deeper reasoning). This one features my voice and 15 or so kindergardeners from my parents summer Sunday School Class. Here's a pic.
